Elise Ireland, otherwise known as Petite Elise from Instagram, is passionate about leading a healthy and plant-based lifestyle and she has inspired so many people to do the same! We have worked with Elise since we started the Super U journey back in November 2017 and she is someone who really represents our brand and loves to shout about what we do!! Recently we sent Elise our Blue Spirulina Powder and Bamboo Straws; where if you continue reading, you can check out her yummy smoothie recipe.

We think it is amazing that people are so passionate about healthy eating and the positive effects it can have on your physical and mental health – so for us it is important to work with people who have the same values as us and are trying to help more people lead healthier and happier lives.

Below is a little Q&A on Elise’s own personal journey with health and food!

 

 Q&A - all things plant-based, favourite ingredients and healthy guilt-free recipes! 

 

  1. Hey Elise! We have loved working with you since the launch of Super U and seeing how much we’ve both grown! Could you tell us a little more about why you decided to go vegan and live a completely plant-based lifestyle?

Hey guys, it’s been an absolute pleasure to see how your business has expanded and to be a part of it! It’s great to discover new vegan products that really promote health and wellbeing. I’ve been vegan for three years now and am absolutely thriving off of a plant-based diet. I accidentally stumbled across the term ‘vegan’ when scrolling through Instagram and became inspired by some beautiful and vibrant vegan bloggers. They recommended watching some insightful documentaries such as ‘Earthlings’ and ‘Cowspiracy’ which completely shocked me and opened my eyes to the benefits of reducing animal-product consumption. I think discovering veganism through social media encouraged me to create my own Instagram account to try and inspire others…so here I am three years later!

 

  1. Do you think a plant-based diet has helped your overall health and wellbeing?

Absolutely! Eating plants are much lighter on the digestive system so I feel satisfied and full of energy rather than sluggish and lethargic. I can also eat a lot of food without feeling ridiculously full and my meals are often packed full of nutrients and fibre. My Instagram shows off some nutrient-dense meals I enjoy that are full of flavour without all the animal products.

 

 

  1. Do you think our superfood products have helped your nutrition alongside your vegan diet?

For sure – it’s always great when you wake up and get excited about making a healthy smoothie with a clean greens powder or a bowl of berry porridge. Just adding your superfoods increases the vitamins in my breakfast which will keep me going throughout the day. Plus, it’s just been super fun to get creative with different recipes like Muscle Protein pancakes or Berry Beauty banana ice cream!

 

  1. What made you decide you wanted to start your own Instagram blog and YouTube vlog?

As I said before, I was inspired by vegans on social media to turn to a purely plant-based diet and I wanted in on the action! I didn’t know anyone else who was vegan at the time (I was in school and I think there were only a couple vegetarians) so joining an online community was so great for me to discuss veganism with others. Plus, I’ve always been very creative and find it super fun to take photos and edit films and create something that is overall inspiring. Here I am now getting messages from people saying I’ve inspired them to go vegan and it makes me so happy that I am able to make a genuine difference!

 

  1. What are your favourite foods in general, or ingredients you LOVE to cook with?

This is such a tricky question as the vegan lifestyle is abundant with so many incredible food choices! I’ve got to say, though, that I am a massive fan of hummus and I think bananas are such a versatile ingredient (hello banana nice cream, pancakes, cookies, smoothies etc).

 

 

  1. What is your go-to snack for a busy day at uni?

Hummus and carrot sticks! Always a winner for me as it’s so easy to munch on and super healthy too. I also love whipping up a quick smoothie, and using your super foods is great when I want to add some extra nutrients to give me a boost.

 

  1. We were so excited to send you our Bamboo Straws to try, as we know how much you love sustainable products!! How are you getting on with them?

Ah you guys I absolutely LOVE them! I’ve been sipping out of them non-stop. I think anything sustainable is incredible, just like your coconut bowls – being vegan is about making more ethical and environmental choices as well and generally being more aware and so I think it’s incredibly great that you’re offering these products.

 

  1. And what do you think about our Blue Spirulina Powder… isn’t it just complete smoothie goals!!

Oh absolutely! What a colour it is. When I saw you guys at Vegan Life Live in Manchester and you had the superfood powders out, I was in awe of the bright colours of the Blue Spirulina and Pink Pitaya…I couldn’t wait to get back home so I could whip up a pretty bowl using it! Not to mention the nutritional benefits of including it in your diet too. Win-win!

 

Blue Spirulina Smoothie Recipe

Our Blue Spirulina powder is rich in vitamins and minerals and creates the most Instagram worthy content!! It is specifically high in Iron and contains 61% of the Recommended Daily Allowance. Iron is an essential component for a healthy and well-balanced diet, as it majorly helps with energy and fatigue, digestion and supporting the immune system. Our red blood cells need Iron to transport oxygen around the body and not enough Iron, causes us to feel tired and lack energy because not enough oxygen is travelling around our body.

Elise created a delicious smoothie recipe using our Blue Spirulina and finished off with one of our eco-friendly Bamboo Straws! It is so simple and quick to make and of course, makes a great Instagram picture. 

 

Blue Spirulina Smoothie

I created this thick blue banana shake using your vibrant Blue Spirulina powder.
Simply made by blending a big frozen banana with a tsp of your Blue Spirulina, a tsp of Maca Powder, a small handful of ice and topped up with plant milk. Served in a jar with a Super U Bamboo Straw and topped with more banana, coconut chips and black sesame seeds. It creates a super thick caramel-flavoured shake from the Maca Powder and the Blue Spirulina adds an incredible colour and so many nutritional benefits!
 
 
Ingredients: 
1 Large Frozen Banana
Super U Blue Spirulina Powder (tsp)
Organic Maca Powder (tsp) 
Ice
And a splash of Plant-based Milk ( we prefer Coconut Milk or Almond Milk!) - depending on how thick you like your smoothies, try a little amount of liquid to begin with and gradually add more whilst it is blending.
